Wow! Week one weigh in!!

Hello friends, family, lovely followers, and fellow juicers!

I'm drinking my Monday morning smoothie with a giant smile on my face :) why such a big smile you ask? This morning I weighed in at 173.0. That's a 12 pounds down in one weeks time!!!!!! I averaged at a 1.7 pound per day loss. This is incredible. The first few days were terribly difficult, but I'm starting to love my smoothies and juices. I've found some pretty interesting recipes.

This is a really great morning time smoothie. I use spinach, kale/arugula, romain, 1 kiwi, 1 banana, and about 5 strawberries. I use coconut water as my base and add ice :) I've grown to really like this smoothie and ones similar to it. You could really use any fruits in this smoothie. I also like using 1 apple with 1 pear.

Here is another great smoothie. I included some fresh berries here! My boyfriend took me to a pretty cool farmers market over the weekend where I found some nice berries and citrus fruits. Going to a farmers market is a great way to support your local farmers and get the freshest quality products!
This smoothie was.....interesting. I would have liked it MUCH better in juice form (I hadn't gotten my hands on a juicer at the time I made this). This smoothie included 1 bell pepper, 1 grapefruit, 1 apple, 1 pear,2 big carrots, and coconut water. The flavor was quite incredible, but the texture was downright awful.

I finally got a juicer this weekend that my boyfriend's lovely mother is letting me borrow (a huge thank you to her!).  When we went to pick up the juicer we had a little "juice party" with some of Keith's (my boyfriends) family. We all went to an Asian market to get some fruits and veggies. We made a juice that consisted of (no exact measurements) tons of carrots, tons of celery, limes, cucumbers, and apples. It made a pitcher full of juice that we all shared. It was pretty delicious (pour over ice for a nice refreshing taste)

Last night we got a little adventurous and made a juice made of the following (I forgot to take a picture of this one) 2 jalapeƱos (seeds in), 1/2 grapefruit, 1 lemon, 1 lime, 1 orange, 3 cloves of garlic, and bock choy. Even though I'm not huge on spicy foods, I thought this juice was fantastic. It really stimulates your tastebuds (especially after a week of having green smoothies). JalapeƱos are also extremely good for weight loss and migraines! I'm going to make this juice again tonight!

This is a nifty little thing I got from world market for $10. It holds fruit in the center piece that infuses your water! I use the same fruit all day long and just keep filling this little guy up with water! Right now I have raspberries, strawberries, and lemons! This is a great way to keep track of your water intake.

I'll continue to share more recipes as I go. These are just a few that have stood out to me this week. I'm getting better at this as I go.

My wonderful dad watched "Fat Sick & Nearly Dead" on Friday after I told him some of the results I've been seeing. He was inspired, just as I was, and began a 20 day juice fast the next morning. I'm so glad he can join in with me on my journey and I will keep you all updated on his progress as well as mine.

I've starting to get tons of compliments of my skin. After this week my skin had really cleared up and is glowing! Part of this could be due to the oil pulling that I do (refer to my earlier entry on oil pulling), but I'm sure that getting rid of toxins in my body and filling it with nutrients is bringing out the beauty of my skin.

My shorts and pants are definitely fitting a bit more comfortably. I feel like my face has really slimmed down already. I'm overall feeling pretty fabulous. I don't have a huge amount of energy. My guess is because I have a fairly low calorie intake; far lower than I'm used to.

I did some occasional light walking throughout the week. I don't want to try anything too difficult just yet. I'm going to let my body adjust to this life style first.

In the upcoming week I'm hoping to break a barrier that I haven't been able to in years. It's been probably 3 years since I've been under 170lbs. I'm hoping that will change this week (at the rate I'm going it will!) I will be posting occasionally throughout the week with thoughts, tips, or recipes I may think of.  Next Monday I will be weighing in, taking new photos, and recording new measurements to share.

Keep on juicing, juicers. I cannot thank everyone enough for all the support I've been given. You guys are absolutely fantastic! Also a huge thanks to my boyfriend, Keith, for juicing with me all weekend to show support and to make healthy changes for himself. He's been so supportive of me and I can't thank him enough for that.

Love to all!
Xoxo Hay

One more thing! Keith says my snoring had stopped! Yay!

The water-infuser thing seems really cool. I may go get my hands on one.

  5. Haley, how often to you buy your produce and what does a normal shopping trip list look like? How much are you buying each week?

  6. I usually big produce 1-2 times a week while I'm juice fasting. I spend about $60-$70 on produce. The amount you spend will change depending on where you live. My typical list always has spinach, kale, apples, carrots, and ginger. The rest of this things really vary week to week. I come up with the recipes I'll be doing for the week. I make a list and buy those things :) thanks.
